Abstract

In this work, accurate explicit expressions for calculation of surface charging of cylindrical and spherical charged particles were obtained.  The newly developed predictive formulas mathematically describe how surface charging parameters are related to key parameters. A decreasing trend of the parameters with particle size was observed. The new approach eliminates the need for experimental measurements of both the size and surface charging properties. The new formulas enable researchers to calculate the size and all surface charging parameters by characterizing only one of them. The size-dependence of total charge is linear and quadratic for large cylindrical and spherical particles, respectively. The new charge-size relationship for small particles is quite different from that in very few existing models.
