Abstract

This presentation shows that multiple-point statistics can provide large flexibility of prior models, a more realistic data integration approach than traditional Bayesian methods and a generic inverse solution method that honors prior information. Further more, a history matching framework using Probability Perturbation Method (PPM) was developed. A heavy oil recovery by SAGD in a meander belt was history matched. Results show that the performance of SAGD is clearly linked to the steam chamber development, which depends on the degree of heterogeneities in the reservoir. To evaluate the prediction capability of the matched model, the reference (truth) model and the history matched model were produced for an additional three years. As the matched model preserves the geological continuity, it fairly predicts the oil rate and the bottom-hole pressure.
