The simulated phenomena and physical laws, model characteristics and recovery process of SAGD CSS are illustrated for a parallel thermal simulator. The domain decomposition method is used, featured by arbitrary shaped domain decomposition, I/O parallelization and block Jacobi iteration. Future development needs are explored including the application to other recovery processes such as ISC, coupling to wellbore models, coupling with kinematics and coupling with geomechanics.

The simulator is used to look at the reservoir development of Huanxiling Q140 block project and history matching. It is indicated that the numerical results have good agreement with the accurate values of cumulative oil production.
