Progress in Wellbore Simulator Development: Numerical Simulation of Conjugate Natural Convection and Radiation within Wellbore Annuli

In this work, a 2D transient model is developed for the conjugate natural convection and radiation within thermal wellbore annuli. A robust and efficient numerical algorithm is developed to solve the highly non‐linear and coupled governing equations. The interaction of radiation and natural convection is fully examined. The developed module simulating wellbore annulus heat transfer is coupled to the Standalone Thermal Wellbore Simulator successfully. A case study of VIT heat transfer simulation has shown the merits of the developed module.
