Abstract
The objectives of this article is to set up optimized SAGD models using the conventional well configuration for a typical Alberta reservoir, and to test the new well configuration for the above mentioned reservoir to examine whether or not the SAGD performance can be improved. Numerical simulation models are set up to conduct a sensitivity analysis to vertical well spacing, well pair location in the pay zone, injection pressure, production well flowing pressure, and length of the well pair. After optimization of the operating parameters an investigation of different well configurations is conducted for these models. Computer Modeling Group’s (CMG) STARS thermal simulator is used for the numerical simulation work.
