Abstract
In this work, a new hybrid bypassing method is proposed, and it can reduce the SAN significantly in compositional reservoir simulation. According to the results in this work, we concluded that:
- The HB method is always better than the SB method and is better than or equal to the NB method in most cases.
- The HB and SB methods do not have accuracy problems. The NB method can cause an increase in OIN in some cases because its MBN is too high.
- The mistaken bypassing is not always a “bad thing”. A small mistaken bypassing number can act as a damper to inhibit a wrong phase change during the outer iterations and then reduces the OIN.
